CalFresh and Triton Food Pantry
CalFresh
What is CalFresh?
CalFresh is California's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that provides those who are eligible with monthly grocery benefits based on individual need to help supplement their food budget and purchase healthy food. For more information on eligibility, please see the eligibility guidelines and if you meet income requirements, apply online.
How do I buy food with CalFresh?
CalFresh benefits are accessed by using an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. An EBT card is used the same way you would use a debit or ATM card. Eligibility and the amount of CalFresh benefits you receive depend on individual factors such as income and certain living expenses. These benefits can be used at many grocery stores and campus markets.
Triton Food Pantry
The mission of the Triton Food Pantry is to provide a discreet service to UC San Diego students in need of food. Their goal is to ensure that every student has enough energy to get through the day and that no student should give up a single meal for any reason. They aim to build a network of food resources and awareness about food insecurity so that every UC San Diego student has nutritious fuel to achieve academic success. Learn more about who can use the pantry and how it works.
A service of the Associated Students (AS), the Triton Food Pantry is managed by student pantry managers and interns who provide oversight to the daily operations of the food pantry. These managers and interns also develop programming around meal preparation. The operation is also supported by a set of student volunteers who sign up to help support!
